Did you know that:
- – One out of every 11 adult women in the U.S. is an entrepreneur, and women make up about one-third of all entrepreneurs worldwide
- – The absolute number of startups in CrunchBase with at least one female founder has more than quadrupled in the last five years, from 117 in 2009 to 555 in 2014
- – Businesses with a woman on the executive team are more likely to have significantly higher valuations at Series A – as in, 64% higher!
Clearly, female entrepreneurship is on the rise. Startup Grind, the largest independent startup community in the world, believes it could be better. Although women are currently starting companies at 1.5x the national average, they don’t tend to be well represented in tech, accelerator, and startup events around the world. Moreover, Startup Grind chapter directors often have difficulty finding women entrepreneurs to attend and speak at their local events each month.
To encourage more women entrepreneurs to come out of the woodwork and get involved in their entrepreneurial communities, Startup Grind is designating May as Female Founders Month. As part of a campaign to increase female membership, three-fourths of Startup Grind’s local chapters will host a woman entrepreneur speaker at their monthly events in May. That pencils out to 60 events in more than 40 different countries where you can hear tales of female entrepreneurial success.
